Paintings
My previous paintings run a broad spectrum of style and subject matter, and in many cases are simple sketches. They tend to focus on a specific challenge such as skin tones, color, and/or material. They are on board, metal, canvas, and paper; are oil, acrylic, and pastel. Some are studies of a particular artist or a painting that caught my eye.
Assemblages
An ongoing collection of mixed-media pieces of paper, fabric, solvent image transfer, oil paint, and found objects on canvas are largely autobiographical assemblages incorporating the found object to express the inherent aesthetic qualities of everyday objects and bring reality and immediate connection to the abstract piece.
Charcoal Portraits
"Self-portrait" is an evolving, single piece of work composed of portraits of people in the artist's daily life, those who impacted the artist's character in a significant way, and random encounters. The work conveys that our 'self' to the outward world is only as others see us; and speaks to the possible gap between who we are, who we want to be, and how we are seen. The piece focuses on the mimetic concept in art, the impact of tonal values, and the importance of the eyes in conveying character and feeling.
